  1. The city's health insurance program might be a great place to start.
Did you know that the City of Hollywood pays approximately
$ 16,000.00 per year for each city employee.

  2. And what about the commissioner's salaries - they're elected officials, doing their civic duty, and they're paid tens of thousands of dollars in salary, benefits and expenses. Does anyone know how much they make?

According to the Tampa Bay Buzz, last year it was $91,995 in Broward.

  5. Potential Savings

What about reducing the city's expenditures on public and media relations. The city has numerous PR people dispersed through several offices and departments. Several of these positions should be eliminated. While it is nice for the different departments to have their own PR, when economic hardship strikes, it seems like a luxury we can no longer afford.

I would be interested in learning the economic impact of terminating the downtown CRA. When this has been discussed in the past, it has been presented from the viewpoint that it cannot be shut down without dire consequences. Let's look at that more closely. Close it down after more than 30 years and declare victory. The city would have to assume the liability for paying off the bonds, but if there is any tax increment coming in from new development downtown, that would help the general fund. And if there is none, we have a failure on our hands that should not be swept under the rug.

  6. Three Broward cities (Fort Lauderdale, Cooper City, and Pembroke Park) are not raising taxes this year, per Broward Property Appraiser. What is the difference between them and Hollywood which proposes 20% tax increase and 49% fire fee increase?
